Nintendo 3DS adventures differ from their home-console counterparts. SuperChargers Racing does not include the full SuperChargers adventure campaign.
Nintendo Wii U owners can also play compatible Nintendo Wii editions through Wii mode, using the appropriate Nintendo Wii controls and portal. This includes the UK Nintendo Wii release of Spyro’s Adventure.
PlayStation 5 owners can play the PlayStation 4 editions of Swap Force, Trap Team, SuperChargers and Imaginators through backward compatibility with a compatible portal. Physical copies require a PlayStation 5 with a disc drive. There are no separate PlayStation 5 editions.

Spyro’s Adventure introduces the Portal of Power and the toys-to-life adventure. Place a compatible figure on the portal to bring its character into a world of exploration, battles and puzzles.

Mix and Match with Swap Force
Swap Force introduces special figures with interchangeable top and bottom halves. Combine compatible pieces to mix different powers and movement abilities.

Capture Villains in Trap Team
Trap Team introduces Trap Masters and elemental traps. In the home-console adventure, supported villains can be captured and brought into the action as playable allies.

The home-console game requires a compatible Traptanium Portal. The Nintendo 3DS edition has a different adventure and villain system.
Add Vehicles with SuperChargers
SuperChargers introduces land, sea and sky vehicles, combining character-based exploration with driving, flying and racing.

Remember that the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS Racing editions focus on vehicle racing, while the other console versions include the full adventure.

Imaginators introduces Sensei figures and Creation Crystals, allowing players to create their own Imaginator characters.
Choose favourite Senseis, collect different Creation Crystal designs or explore chase variants to expand your collection.
The Nintendo Switch edition scans figures through a compatible controller’s NFC reader instead of using a Portal of Power. It does not include Racing Mode.

What Are Skylanders?
Skylanders are collectible character figures created for the Skylanders video game series. The figures are part of a toys-to-life gaming system, allowing physical characters to appear as playable characters within compatible Skylanders games. Each figure represents a character with its own appearance, abilities and gameplay features. Skylanders figures can also be collected and displayed independently of the games.
How Do Skylanders Figures Work?
Skylanders figures contain NFC technology that allows a compatible Portal of Power to recognise the character. When a supported figure is placed on the portal, the corresponding character can appear in the game. The portal connects to the gaming system and communicates with the figure. Compatibility depends on the figure, game, console and portal being used.
What Skylanders Games Are Available?
The main Skylanders games include Spyro's Adventure, Giants, Swap Force, Trap Team, SuperChargers and Imaginators. Skylanders Elements and Character Types

Compatibility Guide and Story Requirements
Standard re-releases and LightCore figures can work in older games where the original character was supported. For example, Tidal Wave Gill Grunt from Trap Team can be used in Spyro’s Adventure; the original Gill Grunt works in all six main games. Newer upgrades or special abilities may be unavailable in older games. SuperCharger redesigns, Senseis and Creation Crystals have different restrictions.
✓ = compatible; ✕ = not compatible.
Companion: follows your active character; you cannot control it as your main character in that game.
Bonus: a trap provides an elemental vehicle attack bonus in SuperChargers. It does not make the trapped villain playable.
Racing: works in Racing Mode only. Vehicles are used for racing; trophies unlock associated racing content.
Racing bonus: a trap provides an elemental vehicle attack bonus in Imaginators Racing Mode only.
Nintendo / Wii U: works only on the Nintendo console versions named in the item’s note.
Power-up: provides an item-specific effect during play.
Level unlock / Arena unlock: unlocks an extra level or battle arena.
Academy treasure: unlocks an object to place at Skylander Academy in SuperChargers.
Gold bonus: provides a one-time gold reward in Imaginators.

The game columns cover home-console adventure versions. SuperChargers Racing on Wii/3DS and the other 3DS/mobile games have separate rules. Imaginators on Nintendo Switch has no Racing Mode, so vehicles cannot be driven there and trophies cannot unlock racing content. Vehicle toys can still be scanned for an Imaginite Chest reward. Traps require a trap-compatible portal and have different uses after Trap Team. They are not supported in Nintendo Switch Imaginators. Games and portals must match your console; Xbox 360 and Xbox One portals are separate versions.
Portal compatibility: a Traptanium Portal can be used across the six main home-console games on a compatible console. Xbox 360 and Xbox One require their own console-specific portals; those versions are not interchangeable with each other or the PlayStation/Wii versions. Nintendo Switch Imaginators scans figures using the controller and does not use a portal.
Minimum needed to finish the main story
For one player, you need the game for your console and a portal compatible with both that game and console, plus the items below. Nintendo Switch Imaginators scans toys through the Joy-Con and does not use a portal. This guide excludes 3DS, mobile and SuperChargers Racing.
- Spyro’s Adventure: one compatible playable Skylander.
- Giants: one compatible playable Skylander; it does not have to be a Giant.
- SWAP Force: one compatible playable Skylander; it does not have to be a SWAP Force figure.
- Trap Team: one compatible playable Skylander and a Traptanium Portal. Traps and Trap Masters are optional for the main story.
- SuperChargers: one compatible playable Skylander and one Land Vehicle for a physical-toy setup. Sea and Air Vehicles are optional for the story. The Portal Owner’s Pack includes digital Instant Spitfire and Instant Hot Streak, so physical toys are not always necessary.
- Imaginators: one compatible playable Skylander or one Creation Crystal. A Sensei is not required for the main story.
These are story minimums, not requirements for every optional area or 100% completion. Extra playable figures give you more characters to switch to if one is defeated; with only one you may need to restart the level.
